Taylor Road Symphonic Band April Assignment (Due Friday, April 24th by 4pm) Taylor Road “Virtual” Band Performance – Take On Me

Dear Band Members: Your health is of course more important, but it doesn’t diminish the fact that we’re all stuck at home and cannot “perform.” We want to change that. We want to create something together that you can look back on from this final 6-weeks and be proud of.

  • Every video submitted will be included in a mass-band virtual concert video, very much like this (except with instruments!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7o7BrlbaDs

  • We have already secured a professional videographer who will create a most awesome “virtual concert” by getting 80 musicians on each screen. Of course the video will scroll to multiple pages so we see EVERYONE performing! It WILL be an amazing video, and we want you to be a part of it. There will be so many people playing that you won’t “hear yourself” individually, so don’t worry that you’ll “stick out.” Just try your best!

The deadline to submit your video recording of your part is Friday, April 24 by 4pm; work will begin on the mixing on April 25.

Sheet music parts (most recent part assignment) available for every instrument below!

PROCEDURE / PRACTICE:

1. Listen to recording below, and practice with it!

2. Play your most recent part assignments!

3. If some passages or measures are too-hard and you wish to leave them out, that’s fine. Just play what you can and try your best. That’s all that matters.

4. Percussion: do the best you can with what you have. Got electric drums at home and can emulate timpani? Go for it!

INSTRUCTIONS FOR WHEN YOU ARE READY TO RECORD:

1. You should have the Take On Me Play-Along recording playing in your headset or earbuds; NO SOUND should be coming out of your computer speakers. Practice it this way before you try to record your video. PRACTICE PLAYING ALONG WITH THIS RECORDING. It will serve as our tempo reference.

 2. Wear BAND shirt (blue or green) or hoodie; and record this at your house in your room where you normally practice. We want the best version of YOU😊! Inappropriate dress will disqualify your video.

 3. You can sit or stand, just be sure your phone video is capturing your entire upper body and picking up just the sound of your instrument; stay in the frame!

 4. You will likely have to record this more than one time, so test a short section and play it back on your phone to make sure we hear only your part and that we see you.

 5. It is totally OK to have several seconds of extra time on the front end of your recording so you can be ready for the downbeat (I count in TWO full measures + the downbeat: 1& 2& 3& 4& 1& 2& 3& 4& 1). We will edit that part out on our end later.

 6. When you have completed the best version of your 2:16-minute recording, even if it’s not perfect, submit the video into the Google Drive Folder link below!

Submit your video here: https://forms.gle/zputfBoTVXjSezHf8 or USING FLIPGRIP ON A SMARTPHONE/iPAD https://flipgrid.com/trmsvirtualband (code is: trmsvirtualband)

THAT’S IT! When the video is completely done each student participant will get a copy that can be sent to any of your family and friends. And who knows – it could even end up on television!
